We've had some downs where we missed each other so much and didn't know if we could take it. My school is two hours away from home and I don't get to see her very often. I'm away at college while she is finishing up high school. I think the end is saying "We've done what's right, and in some crazy, messed up way, it's brought harmony back into our lives and the lives of everyone we know." The truth of it is, they both knew when he went off, it wouldn't work. He swears he can't go on without her and realizes they could never just be friends, but she has herself to take care of and enough faith in him to know that he will be okay. Life is taking them in two separate directions, no matter how badly they just want to be together. It feels like a few days after a huge fight and the night before he's coming home when she suddenly realized she can't do this any more. It sounds to me like she is saying I can't continue to watch you leave, and I can't continue to dream of you being here next to me. However, as time goes on, coming home isn't as simple as you thought it would be. You leave behind the one special person, swearing you will be back soon and often. I probably feel this way simply because it applies to my life, but it reminds me of going off to college. If you think otherwise, please leave your own opinion so others could read and get an accurate idea of the song's meaning. "I'm not some boy that you can sway" is him telling the girl that he is not going to be one of those boys that she just tosses to the side and watches her fall in love with someone else while he still has intense feelings for her. He does not want to be just friends with the girl that once meant so much to him. The guy felt like he would never be genuinely happy again, and when the girl suggests they be friends, he rejects her. Even though the guy seen this break up coming, he was still taken by surprise and was in denial. While he is gone away, she has to remain faithful and wait until he gets home to receive any of this, so it is understanding that she would want to break up. His girlfriend, however, feels that he cannot give her what she needs, such as attention, quality time, and sex that is essential to a relationship and not having that is hard sometimes. The guy who wrote this song is obviously in a band and must go on tour from time to time, and leave his girlfriend behind. Having this experience makes me more capable of understanding the song's lyrics and meaning. I have to wait until I finish high school to even visit my boyfriend, then I have to finish college/uni until I go to live with him. This song touches me on a personal level, having a long distance relationship myself. I just feel complete when you're by my sideīut I know you can't come home 'til they're singingĪnd don't you dare say we can just be friends 'Cause I can't come back home till they're singingĪnd I know that you don't want to be leaving me Overall, the song is emotionally charged and relatable to anyone who has experienced missing someone they love due to distance or other circumstances. And I know you don't feel right when I'm leaving The song ends with an optimistic note, suggesting that even if the relationship doesn't last, the memories will stay with them forever. However, he is willing to stay together for the night and enjoy the moment. The last chorus has an interesting twist as the singer admits that he knows the relationship won't work out in the long run as they both have different needs and goals. The chorus of the song has a catchy melody and is sung in a beautiful harmony with both male and female vocals. He confesses that he feels complete when his partner is by his side, but he can't have everything he desires. He asks his partner to wait for him until he gets home, promising that they can make things work if they do. The main theme of the song is that the singer cannot wait to be reunited with his significant other, but he can't abandon his responsibilities, which are keeping him away. "If It Means A Lot To You" by A Day to Remember is a song about a long-distance relationship that is being tested by distance and time. Now everybody's singin' la, la la la, la la la La, la la la, la la la (Then I swear we can make this last) La, la la la, la la la (If you can wait 'til I get home) I just feel complete when you're by my sideīut I know you can't come home 'til they're singin'Īnd don't you dare say we can just be friends Then I swear come tomorrow, this will all be in our pastĪnd hey sweetie, but I need you here tonightĪnd I know that you don't wanna be leaving Then I swear to you that we can make this last If you can wait 'til I get home (I get home)
